We published this post before the horrific events in Nice, France, on Thursday, on what should have been a national celebration of liberty and democracy. So please view our list of French influence in just about everything in a spirit of solidarity.

MAYBE IT’S THE WEATHER and you just don’t have the energy to play pétanque at Le Diplomate. Or you don’t want to wait for Friday’s fete at the French embassy. Or, with Brexit and all, you’re just not feeling all that European, much less French, these days.

Well, pretend! Here’s a silly assortment of things to see, consume, indulge in on this quatorze juillet—the 14th of July or, as we English-speakers insist on calling it, Bastille Day.
