NERVOUS? TIRED? This week Well-Being columnist Mary Carpenter shared the benefits of cold water. Yep, dunk your face in it, or just place a cold, wet towel on your forehead and around your nose! It’s something called the “diving response,” and probably is an adaptation that dates back to when fish were evolving into land animals. Hard to believe (either the evolution or the cold-water treatment)? Read her column!

Green Acre columnist Stephanie Cavanaugh is more land-bound (though she does love her parakeets). This week she talked about how roses lost their smell and how they can regain their charm by being mixed in with other flowers in the garden.

Kitchen Detail columnist Nancy Pollard kicked off her family’s Official BLT Sandwich Season with the fascinating saga of the Early Girl tomato. Be sure to check out the video of the two little boys helping their farmer dad preserve hybrid tomato seeds.

Meanwhile, LittleBird Janet Kelly tipped us to some of the best summer sales in fashion and beauty. Because last Monday was the Fourth of July there was no How Not to F*ck Up Your Face column. Not to worry: Valerie Monroe (and her hard-won wisdom) will be back tomorrow!

Hope you had a great Fourth!
