IN THIS UNIVERSE of everything on sale almost all the time, “Presidents’ Day” week stands out for scoring deals. To wit, on Monday I took my computer for a tuneup at the Apple Store. Although nothing among the candy-store-like merchandise is on sale at Apple, its nearby neighbors had much to offer. At the Gap, an on-trend geranium-pink pair of chinos was reduced from $59.95 to $44.96. An All-Clad non-stick square grill at Williams-Sonoma, which was $155, is now $49.95. It was an offer I couldn’t resist, plus I could finally ditch my husband’s rusting cast-iron lilliputian-size one that we’ve held onto for 30 years. The best deals are on All-Clad cookware sets, which are selling from $400-$700 off the suggested retail price.
It’s also the week (through Feb. 26) for Nordstrom’s 2017 Winter Sale, with discounts of up to 40% off on designer-label handbags (Kate Spade), sweaters (Rag & Bone), jeans (Paige) and boots (Aquatalia). And, if perhaps you wanted a souvenir of the power of the grab your wallet campaign on Ivanka Trump’s fashion line at Nordstrom, there are three shoe styles left: a patent and a printed calf-hair flat as well as an ankle-strap suede chunky-heel pump in navy, blue or dark pink.
And, let’s not forget this is the time of year to buy a winter coat. Yep, global warming is leaving many toppers on sale for half of the original price. Like a DKNY wool-blend overcoat in navy reduced from $1,198 to $479.20 and a Diane von Furstenberg reversible shearling and leather coat peacoat at $720, reduced from $1,800. Both at Saks Fifth Avenue.
Happy hunting and gathering.
