Backstage at New York Fashion Week

WELL, New York Fashion Week for fall and winter 2015 is officially over, and I’ll need to nap till the spring equinox to recover. From February 8 through 13, Manhattan was nonstop glammy, sleepless, overcrowded hoopla. Of course, you could say that about every day and night on that crazy island.

But Fashion Week intensifies everything. Particularly this year, when the hundreds of shows, some 30 a day, were spread out all across the city — Lincoln Center, designers’ Upper East Side brownstone living rooms, Brooklyn, the Meatpacking District, and midtown.

Narciso Rodriguez showed on Tuesday evening, February 17, at SIR Stage 37, and the backstage beauty scene was truly something to see. Or maybe I should say survive. Was it exciting and fun? Yes. Was it overheated and over-crowded? Yes.

An old pro by now, Rodriguez knows from more than clothes. His world-class makeup and beauty team showed the complementary trends we’ll see through the rest of the year. With a few exceptions, the looks I saw and photographed are absolutely perfect if you’re 17 years old; have flawless skin; and that model-ly kind of straight, thin, shiny hair. As for the rest of us, there’s always Botox, primer, mascara, blush, lipstick and a good haircare routine.

I’m sorry, but these women-girls in the white dresses look emaciated arms. The joints look too big because there is no flesh on the arms. The bony flat chest of one model? Just sad. Because you know what they do to achieve this look.

Totally agree, as does Gigi Anders, who wrote the story. I thought this was changing, but I guess not. Sorry situations.
