WHILE WE WERE happily enjoying a snow-less, rather temperate holiday season, the weather gods apparently had other plans for the Fahrenheit.
On Monday, the wind whipped the day into the chilly 20s; Tuesday, snow (after we just read an article that said Decembers without snow might be a meaningful predictor for the rest of the year, sure) and temps in the 20s. And if you thought the rest of the week might be more forgiving, forget it. According to my smartphone, the lows on Wednesday and Thursday will be 9 and 16 degrees, respectively. Hello (again), Polar Vortex. Or maybe we’ve slipped into Elsa’s “Frozen.”
What’s a grown-up girl to do? Fight back with an arsenal of warm clothing. In the gallery above, we’ve picked out a few items of sleek underwear for layering; furry, waterproof Sorel leather boots with a removable felt inner boot to ensure that feet stay warm, dry and comfortable, a down coat from Canada Goose (manufacturers of clothing for extreme weather conditions) and an Ugg shearling hat to keep your head protected from the elements.
Plus, nothing keeps hands warmer than mittens (see etsy.com); we love the wool-blend knitted as well as the new cashmere tights from hanselfrombasel.com. And for skin that feels rough and tight, Aquaphor Healing Ointment ( area drug stores) is our go-to solution.
